Ed Kapel, Assistant Director

Ed Kapel, M.Ed.

Ed Kapel is the assistant director for State Support Team Region 7 who supports the director in all aspects of SST7 work with school districts and buildings with a focus on school improvement through organizational leadership practices; capacity building and professional capital; and inclusive instructional practice. 

In addition, Mr. Kapel serves as the lead special education contact working with schools identified by the Office for Exceptional Children who meet the criteria for Needs Assistance, Needs Intervention, or Needs Substantial Intervention to include assistance in meeting Special Education Profile requirements. 

Mr. Kapel believes through collective efforts of school personnel, parents and community members a positive impact on student achievement is attainable when there is a committed focus on individual needs using a multi-tiered system of support. 

Mr. Kapel has spent his entire career serving students with disabilities as a teacher, special education supervisor and interim director of Ohio’s Office for Exceptional Children. 

Mr. Kapel has a Bachelor’s degree in Education from California State University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s in Special Education from Edinboro State University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Pupil Personnel certificate from the Ohio Department of Education.
