School Improvement

5 different steps of the Ohio Improvement Process, including supporting implementation
Ohio’s State System of Support is in place to assist schools and districts to increase student outcomes and achievement. This includes Educational Service Centers (ESC), State Support Teams (SST), Instruction Technology Centers (ITC), and direct supports from the Department. This system utilizes the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) as a framework to establish systemic collaborative structures designed to support development and implementation of focused goals and a strategic plan looking at both student academic and non-academic needs. The continuous improvement cycle becomes the process for district and school core work and is used to implement, monitor and evaluate their goals and strategic plan. Guiding Principles

We believe leadership should focus on a set of essential practices that need to occur in an aligned and coherent manner across all levels of the system through the effective development of team structures at the district-, school-, and teacher-levels articulated by the Ohio Leadership Development Framework.

These practices provide the foundation for the continued development and refinement of the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP). The OIP includes, but goes well beyond, the traditional plan-do-study-act (PDSA) cycle. When viewed as an organizational strategy, rather than an exercise in compliance, the OIP gives districts a template through which focused and intentional action can take place. It brings educators together through collaborative team structures to learn from each other, and it facilitates communication and decision-making between and across levels of the system (district, central office, school, grade levels, content areas, classrooms).
