Wellness

Overview

Wellness has become a very important topic for everyone, especially since Covid-19. Wellness consists of 8 domains that include physical wellness, emotional wellness, occupational wellness, intellectual wellness, social wellness, spiritual wellness, financial wellness, and environmental wellness. Schools and educators are feeling more pressure than ever to provide multiple aspects of wellness for their students and their staff. It can be incredibly stressful for everyone especially when there are so many other standards and demands that must be met. On this page you will find countless resources to support both students and educators in developing and maintaining their wellness.

Teacher Wellness

When we think about wellness and schools we often first think of students. We bring in prevention specialists, social workers, and counselors all in the hope of helping our students be able to be successful in schools. No one really talks about or thinks about the educators first and how they are being impacted by secondary trauma, stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, and moral injury. We don't often think about them needing support or that they may even be in need of support. On this page you will find countless resources to help you as an educator get the help and support that you need.

Student Wellness

Student wellness, as previously mentioned, is a huge part of the education system. As educators we are tasked not only with the physical well-being of our students, but also their social emotional well-being. It can be extremely challenging and overwhelming trying to provide social emotional learning to your students on top of everything else that as educators you must complete. That being said you will find lessons that are easy and accessible to assist you as an educator in supporting and developing your student's social emotional learning.

Ohio School Safety Center

SST7 is pleased to share with you a vital resource for enhancing school safety: the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC). OSSC is dedicated to assisting schools and districts across Ohio in preventing, preparing for, and responding to hazards, threats, and acts of violence, including self-harm. They offer a wide range of services free of charge, including access to the Safer Ohio School Tip Line, which allows students and community members to report concerns anonymously. Additionally, OSSC provides training and resources for developing comprehensive emergency management plans, ensuring that schools are well-equipped to handle various safety scenarios. Their initiatives also include the Ohio School Safety Summit, where educators and safety professionals come together to share best practices and innovative solutions.

Here are some of the ways that OSSC can help your district:

  • Behavioral Threat Assessment

  • Grant Information and Assistance

  • OSSC School Safety Plans Portal

  • Security & Vulnerability Assessment (SVA)

  • Tests & Drills: Tabletop, Functional and Full-Scale

For more information, please check out OSSC’s website: https://ohioschoolsafetycenter.ohio.gov/

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Requirement for Schools

Starting April 9, Ohio legislation mandates that all city, local, exempted village school districts, chartered nonpublic schools, community schools, STEM schools, and college-preparatory boarding schools serving students in grades 9-12 must display the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline phone number on student ID cards, planners, and any electronic platforms used by the school. The Lifeline is accessible 24/7, allowing all Ohio residents to call or text “988” to connect with a trained professional for assistance during mental health emergencies. For further details about this requirement, please visit the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce's webpage. Additionally, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services offers resources to help schools comply with this mandate, including the 988 Toolkit and Materials Generator.
